The Medicinal Plants of California

Creating this book was definitely a passion project. A collaboration between myself, the reader, and most importantly, the plants, I spent months researching, compiling, illustrating, designing, printing, and finally hand cutting and assembling an edition of 40 books. I used a font designed locally in Alameda, California, biodegradable seed paper for the cover, and recycled paper for the interior. The soy-based inks from the risograph printer made for an entirely ecofriendly publication.

An excerpt from the introduction: “By harnessing the powers of everyday plants found here in California, you’ll be able to create your remedies. I like to think of this process as a type of magic - carrying out a ritualistic process, infusing your intentions into each step.

“As with all magic, this knowledge should not be used in place of medicine prescribed by a doctor. While herbal remedies are an excellent method that have been used for centuries, nothing can replace the scientific research that goes into lifesaving pharmaceutical technology.”
